In 2016, the Hanna family started Hanna Hugs, LLC. Our goal is to help bring awareness to Kangaroo Care (Skin-to-Skin).
Dawn Miller-Hanna, RN, BSN, RN-NIC, the owner of Hanna Hugs has been a Registered Nurse in the Neonatal Intensive Care unit since 1988. Dawn became passionate about Kangaroo Care after she obtained her Neonatal Developmental Care Specialist Certification in 2014. She learned that Kangaroo Care was a vital aspect of helping the preterm infant survive and thrive in the NICU's harsh environment. She went on to obtain the Certified Kangaroo Caregiver Certification in 2015 from the United States Institute of Kangaroo Care. She was instrumental in developing a robust Kangaroo Care policy for her hospital including being involved in the International Kangaroo-a-thon, and Kangaroo Care Awareness Day. In 2019, she obtained the Certification in Neonatal Intensive Care Nursing. In 2020 she obtained her certificate for the Small Baby Care Specialist Program through Engage Grow Thrive.
Dawn now resides in Sparks, Nevada a suburb of Reno.
Our website features a book titled "ABC's of Kangaroo Care: Everything You Wanted To Know About Kangaroo Care (Skin-to-Skin) written by Dawn in 2020. She also designed a poster about the ABC's of Kangaroo Care. Both book and poster are protected under copyright rules.
